Spirituality is for Sissies
I am not a spiritual person. I used to be, in my own way, but I'm not any more. Strangely enough, I started losing my spiritual side as Ben gained his. And Ben has gone WAY off the deep end and is teetering on fundamental Catholocism *gags*, but that's beside the point. Or is it?
I think his newfound spiritual fundamentalism is really turning me off to religion... It's one thing to love your God and worship and all of that stuff, but when you start getting a holier than thou attitude and start forcing your beliefs on others, directly or not, it's a whole different story. I cannot stand Bible thumpers or ANY kind of fundamentalists. Do not try and force your beliefs on me, because that's the one surefire way to turn me COMPLETELY off to the religion because I do not want to become some religious prick who insists it's my way or the highway and everyone else is burning in hell. Having a holier than thou attitude comes in as a THISCLOSE second as a surefire way to turn me off to your religion. Don't act like a prick. Period. Yeah, you might not drink or swear or have copious amounts of sex and shit along those lines, but that's not the life that everyone chooses. I guess I'm lucky because I'm Catholics and Catholics are cool with drinking, smoking, and gambling... Well, besides the fundamentalists. But fundamentalism is misleading because even though they have "fun" in their name, they are NOT fun. Pretty much the only religion that I like, "orthodox" or not, is Judaism. I'm not Jewish, but I flippin' love Jews. I dunno what it is about that religion, but I like it.
Ben's not to the point of no swearing and no drinking and spending all of his free time in church or reading the Bible, but he's pretty dang close. Although he denies it, it's pretty obvious that he's now all about the "no sex before marriage" thing. Funny, though, that I was...
